Each client’s experience will be unique to him or her. When deciding to retain counsel, it is important to meet with the attorney to discuss your case. Since you will be working closely with the attorney, you will want to make sure your personality does not clash. An effective attorney will advise you on how the law applies to the facts of your case, regardless of whether the outcome is perceived as unfavorable. In other words, an effective attorney will attempt to help manage a client’s expectations and not paint an unrealistic picture. Given the nature of divorce and family law cases, there will always be the occasional individual who does not accept reality.

Our office has handled many family law and dissolution of marriage cases throughout Florida. Several cases are purposely filed in less populated counties in Florida (when both parties consent) to help reduce the chance of publicity. A majority of the cases are settled out of court. There are a few cases that do not even involve litigation, such as prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Several prenuptial agreements include individuals who have a substantial net worth and are very well known. When it comes to high-profile cases involving celebrities, hedge fund managers, and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, the most successful cases are those that are settled quietly prior to the parties filing their pleadings. A few of the aforementioned individuals continue to keep Mr. Cunha on an ongoing retainer after the dissolution of marriage proceedings to assist in preparing contracts, NDAs, Operating Agreements, Shareholders’ Agreements, Partnership Agreements, Asset Purchase Agreements, Stock Purchase Agreements, Co-Ops and reviewing the same.

I have been engaged in the practice of family law matters for almost twenty years. I was recently waived in to the State of Florida to handle a complex custody matter and had the pleasure of working as co-counsel with James Cunha and his assistant Sarah. In addition to his knowledge of family law, I found that Mr. Cunha’s many years in civil law practice was a valuable asset in his formulation of trial preparation and strategy.
